Refacing a Handprint

LA's daycare teacher made a very cute handprint gift for Mother's Day. One little thing--the bright pink did not go with anything in our house. I knew I wanted to display the handprint, so I went to work.

I began by painting over the pink. It took a little work since the pink had bled into the handprint portion. After I decided on the chocolate brown, the white hand looked too bright, so I watered down some taupe paint and put a light wash on the hand. Using dark brown DMC thread, I stitched her name on the fabric (which is actually a very cheap placemat from Target). To finish the project, I stretched the fabric over the backing of the shadowbox (Walmart--less than $5) and VOILA!
