People, and by people I mean parents, need to realize that their children are their children, and if you want to just give them away because they aren't exactly like you, then you aren't really parents in the first place.
Parents should love and nurture their children, no matter their children's interests, passions, or sexual orientation.

Texas Governor, and recent addition to the slew of GOP presidential hopefuls, Rick Perry, on welfare:

"I don’t think our founding fathers when they were putting the term 'general welfare' in there were thinking about a federally operated program of pensions nor a federally operated program of health care. What they clearly said was that those were issues that the states need to address. Not the federal government. I stand very clear on that. From my perspective, the states could substantially better operate those programs if that’s what those states decided to do."

And, um, Rick, if those states become overrun with wacknut Teabaggers, and Teabagger panderers, such as yourself, who don't wish to help the less fortunate, we should all just turn our backs and watch Americans suffer?

Billionaire New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg, begging not to have his taxes raised, but to make cuts to pay for programs, or just cut programs:

"If you want to raise taxes, don't pick one class of people and say, 'I think they have too much money' or 'I don't think they have enough money' or whatever. Raise everybody's taxes one or two percent or whatever. I think the president should literally go out there and say, 'This is what I propose - A, B, C and D.' And I think that should be a combination of revenue enhancements and expense cuts."

Cut programs to save money, even if that won't work. Make those less fortunate suffer so you can helicopter out to your estate in the Hamptons. You want no part in paying taxes, but you want everyone else to pay theirs, or you want to cut programs that might help someone with less than a billion dollars in the bank.
Why not pay your fair share, Mike? I mean, if you've got billions just lying around, why not pay your fair share. And someone with $30,000 or so lying around ought to pay their fair share, too.
So, quit whining about your billions and billions.

Ricky Martin, on his life after coming out:

Coming out allows you to accept yourself, and when you accept yourself, most people will follow suit. And those who don't will never understand that you're simply being yourself.
And in the end that's all we really have, and we are forced to hide that away then we don't have anything at all.

I Didn't Say It.....Marriage Equality Edition

New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, on marriage equality:

“When I was a little girl, I dreamed I would one day get married. I never imagined that it would take tonight’s Senate action to make that dream come true. Tonight’s historic Senate vote is a great moment for all New Yorkers. New York state’s recognition of marriage equality for same sex couples is an extraordinary step towards full equality for LGBT people. Tonight’s sweet victory in Albany will be felt all across America. At long last, the change we have fought for will be seen in the lives of families throughout our great state, including my own.”

And think of all the other young gay boys and girls, gay men and women, who woke up the day after that vote, realizing they could marry the love of their lives, and suddenly seeing themselves as equal.

Tony Perkins, of the Family Research Council, on the New York vote:

"Despite all of the disappointment, God is on the move. Regardless of how things appear, never doubt that He is at work behind the scenes. Rainbow colors may cut through the New York night, but shadows are where you and I are called to shine. The world takes advantage of the darkness, but only the church can set it ablaze. NYC Mayor Bloomberg, on the passage of marriage equality:

Conservative columnist David Frum, announcing a change of heart on marriage equality:

Where the states have allowed gay couples the same freedoms as straight couples, there has been no problem, no issues, no tornadoes, no locusts.

New York State Senator James Alesi, the first Republican to announce his support for marriage equality:

"We have to make this an opportunity for America to be what America was designed to be and that is the freest land in the world....."I understand that constitutionally the president is right, because it's a states' rights issue, otherwise New York wouldn't have been able to pass this. But there's nothing wrong with the most powerful person in the world espousing a viewpoint."

Freedom.
And doing what's right.
And coming from a Republican, at that.
This shows us all that people can change, that they can understand it's not about tearing down an institution, it's about building it up.

Pat Robertson, on New York's historic vote:

Newt Gingrich, serial adulterer, and habitual marrying man, on marriage equality in New York:

The only pain in the foreseeable future, Newt, is your own pain at losing the presidential nomination to some other wingnut.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, on marriage equality:

"I am not a fan of same-sex marriage. It’s not something that I support. I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman. That's my view and that'll be the view of our state because I wouldn't sign a bill like the one that was in New York."

Allowing all New Yorkers to marry, will strengthen marriage in the state, and strengthen the family, too. No matter what the family looks like.
Mom and dad? Good. One Mom? Fine. One Dad? That works. Two Dads or two Moms? As long as there is love and nurturing, who cares what it looks like.

Wrestler and straight LGBT-ally, Hudson Taylor, on gender roles:

It's nice that someone like Hudson, who understands gender, and it's fluidity, is able to speak up, to show all people, gay and straight, that gender isn't a sex organ.

Georgia State Representative Rashad Taylor, coming out as a gay man:

"Although this is not the time or the way that I wanted to come out, I feel actually very lucky, thanks to all the support that I've received from those people who are closest to me...As a black man, it can be a struggle to find acceptance within the community and at times with myself as well. But I'm proud of the man my mother has raised, and I make no apologies for who I am. There may be those who want to paint those in political terms. They'll say that this is a political liability to me. To me it's actually a gift form God.Through his grace and examples of thousands of members of the LGBT community who have come out often to great personal and professional risk, I have been blessed. It's your bravery and example that makes it possible for me to publicly and say to you, 'this is who I am and I have nothing to be ashamed of.'"

It seems that Taylor was forced into coming out because of an email that was circulating through the Georgia state house, written by his boyfriend's ex-boyfriend.
Yet, while he was forced out, he has openly embraced being an openly gay man. Now, he can be his true self, and in doing so, can be a better public servant.
Plus, there;s that whole Coming Out Toaster Oven, and copy of The Gay Agenda. It's nice to get gifts.

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, on marriage equality:

"In talking to state legislators who do not yet support marriage equality, I can sense that many of them are searching their souls for answers – and they are torn. Like all of us, they have friends and family and colleagues who are gay and lesbian. They know gay and lesbian couples who are deeply in love with each other – many of whom are loving and devoted parents, too. They know those couples yearn to be seen and treated as equal to all other couples. And they often hear from their own families – especially their children – that this is a civil rights issue. I hope they listen to their kids carefully and make them proud with their foresight and courage."

Nice sentiment. And it is true that the more gay men and women, and transgendered men and women, who come out, the less fear and ignorance and intolerance there will be.
But, is Bloomberg being honest? Is he doing all he can for marriage equality?

Seems to me that there are two Michael Bloombergs.
One who wants marriage equality, and one who funds politicians against marriage equality.
Hopefully the Bloomberg who speaks in a pro-LGBT voice, will win out over the other one.
Senator Al Franken, on Minnesota's anti-gay marriage amendment:

“Every Minnesotan deserves dignity and equal treatment under the law, and our state’s same-sex couples should have the same right to marry as anyone else — period. This amendment would do nothing more than write discrimination into our state’s constitution and add to the barriers same-sex couples already face to the full recognition of their families. I’m hopeful that common sense and compassion will prevail and that this amendment will be defeated.”

Who ever thought that Stuart Smalley would become a US Senator? And then be able to speak so eloquently about this civil rights issue?
But he understands that LGBT are good enough, smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like us.
And we should have full equality in the united states.
