Billionaire New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg, begging not to have his taxes raised, but to make cuts to pay for programs, or just cut programs:

Raise everybody's taxes one or two percent or whatever. I think the president should literally go out there and say, 'This is what I propose - A, B, C and D.' Cut programs to save money, even if that won't work. Make those less fortunate suffer so you can helicopter out to your estate in the Hamptons. You want no part in paying taxes, but you want everyone else to pay theirs, or you want to cut programs that might help someone with less than a billion dollars in the bank.
Why not pay your fair share, Mike? I mean, if you've got billions just lying around, why not pay your fair share. And someone with $30,000 or so lying around ought to pay their fair share, too.

Dolly Parton, apologizing for an incident at Dollywood in which a lesbian was asked to reverse a T-shirt that said "Marriage is So Gay" on it:

"I am truly sorry for the hurt or embarrassment regarding the gay and lesbian t-shirt incident at Dollywood's Splash Country recently. Everyone knows of my personal support of the gay and lesbian community. Dollywood is a family park and all families are welcome. I am looking further into the incident and hope and believe it was more policy than insensitivity. I am very sorry it happened at all."

I'm glad Dolly stood up and didn't offer the standard non-apology apology, where the victim is basically blamed.

Dolly has long been a friend of the LGBT community and I know that when she says she's sorry she means it.

 

Pete LaBarbera, of Americans For Truth, on Dolly Parton's apology to that lesbian patron of Dollywood:

"The question is where can normal families go anymore to get away from the promotion of homosexuality? They can't go to the ballpark because they're promoting homosexuality. Apparently, family theme parks are now promoting homosexuality. Everywhere you go, people see the promotion of homosexuality -- and they don't think it's appropriate for their children, and they're tired of it."

First off, Pete, families with gay parents are normal families, too. And just because gay families go to Dollywood, or Disneyland or anywhere, doesn't mean those places promote homosexuality.
What they promote is business.
What they promote is understanding.
What they promote is equality.
And none of things are bad.

Nancy Pelosi, on Michele Bachmann and the gay teen suicides in her congressional district:

NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin on marriage equality and the black community:

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, in a letter sent to town and city clerks in her jurisdiction:

"Recently, a local clerk in upstate New York made headlines when she said she would not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The Marriage Equality Act provides that an application for a marriage license cannot be denied on the grounds that the applicant parties are of the same sex and the law affords no discretion to public officials charged with granting marriage licenses. Therefore, any such refusal may be subject to criminal prosecution. The religious exemptions in the Marriage Equality Act are inapplicable to town and city clerks serving in their license-granting roles, and a public official’s intentional refusal to issue marriage licenses to qualified same-sex couples may constitute Official Misconduct, a Class A misdemeanor defined in section 195.00 of the New York State Penal Law."

Perfect example of Separation Of Church and Sate.

Johnson is so right here.
As this ultra-conservative faction of the GOP continues to demean everyone who isn't white, Christian, male and Republican, they will distance themselves from the rest of society, until they are no more than an incessant, irritating chatter in the background that most people will choose to ignore.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, on terminating state foster care contracts with Catholic Charities because of their refusal to accept civil union law:

“They made a choice. They have a law in Illinois. It’s the civil unions law. I signed it into law. We’re not going back. Any organization that decides that because of the civil unions law that they won’t participate voluntarily in a program, that’s their choice.”

Bravo, Governor Quinn, for not goosestepping with the Catholic Church and their bigotry.

Great News About Brittany Novotny And The Transgender Community

Well, yesterday I told you about Jan Buterman, a transgendered teacher in a Canadian Catholic school district who was fired because he was transgendered [see post HERE]. Well, today there is great news about transgendered political candidate Brittany Novotny.

According to Pam's House Blend, Brittany Novotny has been elected President of the Young Democrats Of Oklahoma.

And, yes, you read that right: O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A.

She is the first trans person to be elected president of the Young Democrats in any state. Not California. Not New York. Oklahoma.

Great news for the woman who took on armed-and-batshit-crazy homophobe Sally Kern in the Oklahoma District 84 Assembly race. Back then, Brittany Novotny didn't want her transgender identity become the focus of her campaign, and in a district that is extremely Republican--hence Sally Kern's ability to be elected even though she is a rabid dog of hate--Brittany Novotny pulled in 35% of the district's votes. 

And now she continues to work hard for Oklahoma, the Democratic party, and, even without it being her focus, the transgendered community.

Congratulations Brittany.
