Born That Way

I saw this on Joe My God...or I saw the link to it.....and followed it, and wanted to share it. The story first appeared HERE.
This is how to parent.
This is what it';s like to be born gay.
This is priceless.

“Mommy, they are just like me.”
My oldest son is six years old and in love for the first time.  He is in love with Blaine from Glee.
For those who don’t know Blaine is a boy…a gay boy, the boyfriend of one of the main characters, Kurt.
This isn’t a ‘he thinks Blaine is really cool’ kind of love.  It is a mooning at a picture of Blaine’s face for a half hour followed by a wistful “He’s so pretty” kind of love.
He loves the episode where two boys kiss.  My son will call people in from other parts of the house to make sure they don’t miss his ‘favorite part.’  He’s been known to rewind it and watch it over again…and force other to, as well, if he doesn’t think people have been paying enough attention.
This infatuation doesn’t bother me or his father.  We live in a very hip-liberal neighborhood, many of our friends are gay, and idea of having a gay son isn’t something that bothers either of us.  Our son is going to be who he is, and it is our job to love him.  End of story.
He is also six.  Six year olds get obsessed with all kinds of things.  This might not mean anything at all.  We always joke that he’s either gay, or we have the best blackmail material in the history of mankind when he’s a 16 year old straight boy. (Take that naked bath time pictures!)
Then the other day we were traveling across the state listening to the Warblers album (of course), and in the middle of Candles, my son pipes up from the back seat.
“Mommy, Kurt and Blaine are boyfriends.”
“Yes, they are,” I affirm.
“They don’t like kissing girls.  They just kiss boys.”
“That’s true.”
“Mommy, they are just like me.”
“That’s great, baby.  You know I love you no matter what?”
“I know…” I could hear him rolling his eyes at me.
When we got home I recapped this conversation to his Dad, and we stood simply looking into each other’s eyes for a moment.  Then we smiled.
“So if at 16 he wants to make a big announcement at the dinner table, we can say ‘You told us when you were six.  Pass the carrots’ and he’ll be disappointed we stole his big dramatic moment,” my husband says with a laugh and hugs me.
Only time will tell if my son is gay, but if he is I am glad he’s mine.  I am glad he has been born into our family.  A family full of people who will love and accept him. People who will never want him to change.  With parents who will look forward to dancing at his wedding.
And I have to admit, Blaine would be a really cute son-in-law.

Beating The 'National Coming Out Day' Rush

National Coming Out Day isn't until October, but it seems like some folks are really jumping the gun. I mean, in the past couple of weeks we've had the Out Comings of Phoenix Suns CEO Rick Welts, CNN newsman Don Lemons, and athlete-turned-musician Will Sheridan. It's rainin' gays!

And now we have a new name to add to the list. Professional bowler, Scott Norton has announced that he is a gay man, and, of course, will be receiving the obligatory Welcome To The Franchise toaster oven and copy of The Gay Agenda.

Scott Norton: "It is extremely important for me to come out to show other gay athletes, both current and future, that it is important to come out to show that we are just like everyone else. Being gay doesn’t define who I am as a person or as a professional athlete. I'm also a professional bowler, lawyer, caring, compassionate, strong, and many other things."

We are all things. Athlete, singer, newsman, designer, businessman....bowler? Yes, we are bowlers, too. We're like the American Express card, we're everywhere you want to be.

Welcome Out, Scott.

Welcome Out, Will Sheridan

Will Sheridan was a basketball star at Villanova.

He's also a musician, with a video--"Welcome to the Jungle"--that has gone mini-viral on YouTube.

And he's gay.

This week, Will Sheridan has chosen to follow CEO of the Phoenix Suns, Rick Welts and CNN's Don lemon out of the closet. Will made his announcement during an interview on ESPN, saying: “I'm kind of over it. Everyone close to me knows. Everyone who matters to me knows. I'm at a point where someone else can learn from my experience.”

And maybe a couple of those who can learn something about Will Sheridan, are his parents. His mother, Josie, says, "Devastated. I was devastated. I mean, I was disappointed. Not in him, but in things that were taken away – not having a daughter-in-law, grandchildren, things like that.”

Josie, maybe one day you'll have a son-in-law, and you can also have grandchildren. And she does say that she's proud of Will: “I've always been so proud of him, but he has such courage. This takes courage.”

Will Sr., a religious man, however, did not speak to his son for over a year. “I don't use the word 'tolerate.' I 'appreciate.' I appreciate that this is who he is, and I believe this is who God wants him to be. [But] I treat him like he ain't [gay]. I believe one day he's going to change. He says he's not, but I believe he will. A man has to have some kind of belief and hope.”

Will Sheridan has changed. He's become open to himself, accepting of himself, understanding of himself.

He doesn't need to change. Society and his father need to change.

And they will. They will.

Welcome out, Will. Your Coming Out Toaster Oven and copy of The Gay Agenda should arrive any day now.

Filed Under: Please Let It Come To Be

It looks like openly gay Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, the Democrat from Wisconsin, will very likely run for the US Senate seat now occupied by Senator Herb Kohl, who has said he will not seek reelection in 2012.

If Baldwin runs and wins, she would become the nation’s first openly LGBT member of the US senate. Seriously? The first? How is this 2011 and we have no openly gay senators in this country?

Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund:
“This would obviously be a top priority for us. Tammy Baldwin has been an outstanding congresswoman, and she’d be an outstanding senator. This would be a remarkable milestone for LGBT Americans. Congresswoman Baldwin is one of the most admired public officials I know. She would have the strong support of those who want to see our economy work for all Americans, and who believe that all voices deserve a place at the table.”

Yes, all voices deserve to be heard.

Thank You, Sir

"Dogald Trump"
On a recent episode of his "reality" show, Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump made note of how well Meat Loaf cleans up, by saying:

"You know I'm not a gay man. I think gayness is wonderful, frankly, but I'm not a gay man."

 And to that, I say:

"Thank you, sir. The LGBT community thanks you for not being a gay man. We have enough problems without having to explain you."

This Is How You Battle Homophobia In Sports

Here in America we have Kobe Bryant, adored by millions, calling a referee a 'fag' because he didn't like the call. And we have many basketball fans asking, 'What the big deal? The ref is a fag.'

We ought to try something new. Something like, say, they do in Brazil.

Santos and the team libero
In Brazil, volleyball player Michael Santos, a a middle blocker from Team Vôlei Futuro, was playing in s semifinal match between against Sada Cruzeiro when fans began chanting homophobic slurs towards him. They were screaming “Bicha! Bicha! Bicha!” which means “faggot” in English.

At the time, Santos called the incident very traumatic and feared the same thing might happen again. He said he tried pretending he couldn't hear the taunts, but he could.

And he could have shouted back, and called them names, but after the game, when his own teammates checked to make sure he was okay, Michael Santos decided shouting back and swearing at the fans wasn't what was needed.

Instead, he stared then straight in the face and admitted that, yes, he is a gay man. “I’m gay. Everyone knows who I am. My team fully respects my sexuality. I have been playing for 10 years and everyone has treated me well and fair. I do not feel the need to let everyone know about my sexuality.”

Fast forward to the next semi-final match, and see how quickly fans and Santos' teammates responded to the issue. His team wore pink warm-up shirts to show support, and the team’s libero--the team's defensive player--donned a rainbow jersey during the match.
Not to be outdone, the crowd unfurled a gigantic banner reading Vôlei Futuro Against Prejudice…
And then began waving pink thundersticks emblazoned with Michael’s name to turn the stadium pink.
In support of a gay player.
Not as a joke or an insult,
Kobe Bryant could learn a lesson.
Oh yeah, Michael Santos and Team Vôlei Futuro won that match.

Darren The Caveman. Outed. After Death.

I am not a big fan of outing anyone. I think coming out is a personal choice, and we should let people out themselves. And we should question the motives of anyone who outs someone after that person has died. Remember when they did it to Abraham Lincoln? One-hundred-forty years or so after he died? Now, they're trying to out a 5,000 year old cave man.

I.Know. Five thousand after his death the worlds first ALLEGEDLY gay caveman has, well, been uncovered. Or, well, excavated.
Darren. Born that way, buried gay.
According to sources--and by sources, I mean a team of nerds in pith helmets, with tiny shovels and paint brushes and too much time on their hands--the way the Caveman, henceforth to be known, on ISBL at least, as Darren, the way he was buried suggests that he was of a "different sexual persuasion."

Persuasion? Really? Look, I know he was, literally a Neanderthal, but it isn't a persuasion! It's.Not.A.Choice. Darren was born gay.

His skeleton was unearthed during excavations in the Czech Republic, and Darren is ALLEGED to be between 4500 and 4900 years old. And, he looks good!

Still, the assumption that Darren was gay is based on the position of his body in his grave.
Men, er, straight men, were normally buried on their right sides, with their heads pointing west, surrounded by manly things like weapons, hammers, bowling balls, six-packs of Mastadon Lite beer, and flint knives as well as all kinds of snacks to accompany them to the other side.

Women would be buried on their left side, with their heads facing east, and would be surrounded by necklaces made from teeth, pets, and copper earrings, as well as domestic jugs and an egg-shaped pot placed at their feet; you know, womanly things.

Now, while Darren was facing manly west, albeit, I guess, toward West Hollywood, he was lying on his left, AKA girly side, and was interred with household items and no weapons or knives. And one of those egg-shaped containers was found at Darren's feet

Darren.Was.Gay.

Archaeologists don't think that the way Darren was buried was a "mistake or coincidence". See, during the time that Darren lived, apparently forever now called The Stonewall Age, AKA the Corded Ware era because of the pottery it produced, a great deal of care was taken during funeral rituals..

Lead researcher Kamila Remisova Vesinova: "From history and ethnology, we know that people from this period took funeral rites very seriously so it is highly unlikely that this positioning was a mistake. Far more likely is that he was a man with a different sexual orientation, homosexual or transvestite."

So, Darren was gay, and he was also, possibly, The World's First Drag Superstar!

Shantay, you stay, Darren.

Another One Comes Out

Anton Hysen, a 22-year-old Swedish second-division footballer, has come out of the closet, and is now Eurpoe's highest-profile, openly-gay footballer, saying:

"I want to prove that there is no big deal if I’m a footballer and also gay. If I perform as a footballer, then I do not think it matters if I like men or women...There will always be people who can’t tolerate gay people, just like there are people who can’t tolerate immigrants. A club might be interested in me and then the coach might change his mind if he finds out I’m gay, but that is his problem not mine."

Welcome out, Anton.

And speeding their way to you right now, from Homo HQ, are your copy of the Gay Agenda, and a Toaster Oven, in which you can warm up--and Yes, I'm going there--your Swedish Meatballs.
