As I posted yesterday, Craft Hope is collecting educational beanbags for the Liberian Orphan Education Project. Today, I completed a set of numbered beanbags to send. Technically, they are "Aquarium Gravel" Bags since the bags could not be stuffed with food products :)
The bags were super easy to make! I cut fabric into 6" squares. On each square I painted a number 0-9. I made a set of blue numbers, a set of red numbers as well as the operations symbols (+ - / x). Next, put a blue number with a red number (making sure they are not the same number) and sew along three sides. Clip the corners and turn. I put 2/3 cup of gravel into each bag. Turn in the edges of the open side and sew closed. My idea was to topstich around all the edges, but my machine was not cooperating after two of the bags, so I ditched that plan.
To make the storage bag, I just used a hand towel I picked up in the clearance section of Walmart today. I sewed the sides together and turned. Then I ran ribbon through the top (it was already a small "pocket") and it was done. Very durable and washable!
As soon as my free flat rate boxes arrive from the USPS, the bags will be on their way!
Maybe you can make a set to donate!
