Qaradawi, coma and singing women

According to the "Department of Monitoring" of Kavkaz Center (the Chechen terror wing mouthpiece), "Qaradawi has lapsed into a coma and there are no signs of improvement in his health condition".

The event caused Kavkaz Center some hardly hidden satisfaction, judging by the article. One of the reasons:

It is to be noted that in recently, Qaradawi issued fatwas, one after another, that clearly contradict the Sharia. Thus, a Qaradawi's fatwa on permissibility of women's singing caused a wave of denials and disturbances among the scholars of the Al-Azhar University, because the scholars agreed that a woman can sing only in the presence of other women or men who are her mahrams.

Oh well, I guess that the coma of good Dr Sheykh Yusuf al-Qardawi isn't so recent then. Otherwise he wouldn't contradict...

It was revenge for Afghanistan and not gratitude for Kosovo

Prosecutor Rainer Griesbaum told reporters that 21-year-old Arid Uka from Kosovo said he went to the airport with the intent to shoot “as revenge for the American mission in Afghanistan.”

So, if you thought that all Kosovars feel gratitude for US intervention in their defense, think again.

Uka was apparently radicalized over the last few weeks by looking at Islamist websites in Germany. U.S. officials confirm that the suspect was extremely active on the Internet, specifically Facebook.

Iran plans to introduce clean web

An interesting new initiative by whatever Ayatollah invented it.

IRI Minister of Communications and Information Technology Reza Taqipour says the country will launch a clean web and offer it to the world. 

“The starting point of a clean web will be Iran, and then, it will be offered to all humanity,” Taqipour told Mehr news agency.

To make sure that we understand the element of innovation in this idea:

The concept of a clean web is pitted against un-clean web characterized by unethical and immoral content which currently abounds on the Internet.

I guess it means that porn will be served now only to Islamic clerics of the highest rank with the need-to-know certificates. Humanity just cannot wait for the new clean Internet.

“The viewpoints of all those who have ideas... on the clean web will be shared and all advice will be utilized,” Taqipour said.

Not having any ideas on the subject, I just want to inquire - how about this kind of content:



Will it be allowed in the brave new Internet (or Allahnet)? One should hope so... after all, it's a natural response to the idea of a clean Internet.

Combining two good ideas

To start with, I have stumbled on this offer of adopting a terrorist for prayer.

"Where is the Christian response to terrorism?" the site says. "If the struggle against violence done in the name of Islam is primarily spiritual, then defeating it requires a spiritual response."

While not a Christian, I can see where this idea may have a point. I don't have a problem with praying (or, rather, performing a secular equivalent of same - flossing my teeth or whatever it is) for a whole list of arch-terrorists.

Then I have encountered another article, this on the the mother ship that is riding in orbit around the Earth in expectation of the Rapture, when the time will come for the Nation of Islam to take off and leave us heathens for a rather lengthy period of torment and stuff.

Without drawing any parallels (Allah forbid) between the spiritual struggle against... whatever, as outlined in the first article and the Nation of Islam folks, what if this mother ship (or the wheel), huge as it is, according to Mr Farrakhan, takes aboard not just the good folks of the Nation of Islam but also these terrorists we all are supposed to be praying for. I am sure that the issue of separating the two groups while in transit could be settled easily by so advanced a civilization.

So that's what I be praying for - in my own way I mentioned already.

Islamic socialism, caliphate, Tariq Ramadan

These three search terms are dominating the intertubes lately. Anyway, its' not the blogger's part to question why. I will try to explain (mainly to myself) some of that, at least.

1. Islamic socialism

Just another way to make caliphate (see below) and associated religious oppressive regime more palatable. In general, the word "socialism" suffers easily all kind of add-on qualifiers. Like "Islamic" in this case. Like "National" in another case. Etc...

2. Caliphate

Just a convenient term to identify a geographic entity, inside which the Islamic socialism (see above) will reign. Needs a caliph, of course, an army, a religious police and associated means of persuasion, but there is nothing new in all that. Tried, worked and considered tested.

3. Tariq Ramadan

A fellow traveler whose mission in life is to make you accept the fact (oh well) that the two things mentioned above are all you were dreaming about, hoping for and, indeed, richly deserving.

Naming your baby Mohammed

Incognito tells the story:

Apparently, Mohammed (if you include all the different versions) became the number one boy's name across England in 2009, with Jack being booted (after 14 years as king) to third place with Oliver taking second.

In twenty or thirty years it could cause a bit of a problem in schools (Mohammed, stop bothering Mohammed, you hear!) and in the circles where a person is addressed by adding the first name to the obligatory "Sir".

A remedy to this issue could come from a re-examination of the name's use. If it is considered a blasphemy to draw prophet Mohammed's picture, isn't using the name even more of a blasphemy for a mere mortal?

Kavkaz Center vs Royal Academy of Sciences. Or gins vs aliens.

Kavkaz Center - the PR arm of the Chechen insurgents - while being preoccupied by the matters of holy Jihad against all kinds of infidels (rest assured, the Big Satan and the Little Satan are on the waiting list, right after the completion of the current task: defeating the Russian bear) found some time to dedicate to the interplanetary relationships.

The definitive article comes as a response to the meeting of the above mentioned Royal Academy of Sciences on the subject of detection of extra-terrestrial life and the consequences for science and society. The article is signed by a Department of Monitoring. It sounds serious then, so take it in the same manner, meaning seriously. This is how the Department of Monitoring describes the proceedings of the meeting:

Democratic British academics proposed to create a specialized agency within the Democratic organization "United Nations" which would deal with issues related to an expected contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. It is to be noted that it is not the first time when Western "scientists" argue that human contacts with aliens is just a matter of time.

Notice the judicious use of quotation marks and the word "Democratic". So, what is the pure Islamic verdict on the Democratic "scientists'" ideas? Here it comes:

To prevent you from useless arguing, the Department of Monitoring found a few more minutes to outline the only true cosmology, of which I shall quote sparingly (so read the whole for enlightenment). To start with:

Islam makes it clear that living intelligent beings were created by Allah, and were reported in the Quran. There are three kinds of creatures - angels, created from light, gins, created from fire (pure flame) and humans, created from clay.

I don't know about you, but to me it makes a lot of sense, besides it's much simpler than any Drake formula and stuff. Notice especially the gins:

It is well known that there are of several kinds of gins - those who can fly, those who move through the soil, and those who swim.

Allah be my witness - at various times I have been bitten by flying, crawling and swimming varieties of gins, getting all kinds and degrees of allergic and other reactions to the critters' bites! For crying out loud, now it all became clear!

But what about all these encounters so richly described in many sources? Here it comes:

In contact with gins are all kinds of sorcerers, witches, healers using a so-called "energy", fortune-tellers, yogas, shamans and others. Gins are contacted by various occultists, exorcists, cabbalists, magicians, satanists, others. Some believe that musicians, singers are under the influence of gins, since music and musical instruments are "flutes of Satan". Gins can manifest themselves in different cases, and in different situations, but humans can not see their true face. It is known that gins can abduct humans. Gins can also cause diseases for humans, both physical and mental. Gin can seize a human and take his mind. However, this can only happen by the will of Allah.

So there: all these stories about little green men (or big hairy ones), about abductions, anal probes, getting pregnant by an alien etc. - it's all explained, and to my total and absolute satisfaction, I have to add.

Christianity: is it Western or what?

According to Vatican Radio, there was a powwow with the diplomats in Rome, where "Pope Benedict spoke about religious freedom, and lamented the violence against Christians in many Muslim countries." Of course, a wily Brit (who else) had him an idea about how to sweeten the pill in discourse on Christianity with all kinds of Eastern heathens. Here is the gist of Mr Bedford's (or is it The Hon. Ambassador, the heck I know...) idea:

He added there Is a danger in presenting Christianity as too closely associated with the West. “That could, if the West took the concept of Christianity under its umbrella, provide a reason for extremists to continue to divide those societies…we would seek to avoid that, if possible,” he said.

I wanted to help and had me an even better idea: why not blame the Jooz Zionists in all that Christianity brouhaha? Firstly it's true; secondly, the interested party will accept it wholeheartedly, what with their blaming the Jooz habitually; and lastly, it will point them heathens in the right direction, if and when, you know...

Oh, and of course, them Zionists are not in the West, which helps a lot too.

Letter from a Coptic Christian

Mike, a Coptic Christian who has immigrated to the United States, has asked Restrain the Blade to publish this letter to President Barack Obama. Out of concern for his safety, only the author’s first name is made public.

Dear President Obama,

I am writing to you as Coptic Christian who immigrated to the United States in the late 1970s.

I am an American citizen.

I have grave concerns about what is going in Egypt regarding the Copts.

To put it bluntly, I fear that something very bad is going to happen to this community in the very near future.

Coptic Christians have been the victims of systematic abuse and oppression in Egypt for a long time. On November 17, 2010, the U.S. Department of State recently issued a report on religious freedom in Egypt that details the abuses they suffer on a daily basis. January of this year, six Coptic Christians were murdered outside their church after celebrating Christmas.

Sadly, I fear another attack will happen again sometime in the near future.

The tendency of blaming the State of Israel for every problem in Egypt, and linking it to the Copts, is on the rise, especially in the past a few months. By associating the Copts with the Jewish state, extremists and government officials are inciting hostility toward a beleaguered, defenseless minority.

The anti-Israel polemic is fairly well known. One official accused recent shark and jellyfish for attacks on swimmers at Sharm el-Sheikh on the Mossad. The alleged goal was to kill the tourism season.

What is less well known is that Muslim Imams throughout the Middle East are demonizing Coptic Christians in Egypt. One oft-repeated claim is that Israel is using Coptic churches to store all kinds of weapons to attack Muslims. Such accusations lead to threats of violence.

For example, Sheik Wagdi Ghoneim recently said in a video message from the State of Qatar “I swear by God, you will not have time stay alive until America and the West arrive, this is for your own good, if you understand. Do you think the Muslims inside Egypt will say thank you and may Allah give you health? “No, by God.”

And on September 16, 2010 Mr., Muhammad Salim Al-Awa, Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars announced on Al-Jazeera TV (Qatar): Copts Amass Weapons in Egyptian Churches and Are “Preparing for War against the Muslims”.

Copts are even being blamed for the violence perpetrated against them by Muslim extremists in Egypt. For example, after a mob of 5,000 Egyptians recently attacked a Christian service building, President’s Mubarak former assistant, Dr. Mustafa El- Feki from Ain Shams University stated that Israel and the Copts were at fault for the attack and the two deaths that resulted from it. Dr. El Feki stated that Israel was behind the subsequent protests: “”It is almost certain that the Mossad is involved in these events. The State is dealing with dangerous events that could not have succeeded without external intervention with Israel at its head.”

Here, it is important to note why the mob attacked the building in the first place. While the Egyptian government does not allow Christians to build churches, it does allow them to build “service buildings” where social services can be provided to the elderly and to young people in the Coptic Christian community. The mob attacked this service building after hearing rumors that the building itself was going to be used as a church and not merely to provide social services to its members.

Mr. President, in light of numerous acts of incitement and previous acts of violence, I fear that Coptic Christians in Egypt are going to have a very tough Christmas season. I implore you to use your good offices to insist that the Egyptian government protect the rights of its Christian citizens.

For reasons of my own safety, I can only sign my first name, but nevertheless, I offer wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I ask that you use your influence to make sure Christians in Egypt can celebrate their holidays in safety.
