On the heels of marriage equality being approved in New York, comes news from Maryland. That states governor, Martin O'Malley, announced last week that he will push for legalizing same-sex marriage in the upcoming legislative session.
"I certainly plan to be very active in support of it, and we'll have other announcements in upcoming months," he told the National Governors Association meeting in Salt Lake City.
He has long supported civil unions, but now realizes that marriage equality is the only way to go, and said if lawmakers passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, he would sign it.
O'Malley, a Democrat, favors a measure in Maryland that mirrors the same-sex marriage law recently enacted in New York, which protects religious organizations from being required to ordain same-sex marriages: "I think we can learn from what they did. One of the things we're looking at in the drafting is how their clauses with regard to religious freedom were different from ours. That might improve our efforts."
It's another domino ready to fall in the struggle for full equality, and yet another politician who is stepping up.
Am I sensing a trend?

He's Hot For Marriage Equality
And he's just plain hot.
As the Maryland house of delegates debates marriage equality legislation, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has released a video voicing his support for the measure.
Ayanbadejo says: "Having the freedom to marry means committed couples and their children will have the same crucial protections under the law as other families. Churches can always have their beliefs, but government is supposed to treat everybody the same, and that’s equal. America is supposed to be the land of the free but in order for this to be true for all of us, then we must have the ability to marry whom we love regardless of their gender.”
